After years of getting closer, Andy Murray will finally hold the world No. 1 ranking.

Murray has built up tremendous respect from tennis fans, media and players alike, being part of the ‘Big 4’ but never having held the top position to himself throughout this era of highly competitive, and entertaining, men’s tennis. Murray has won Wimbledon twice, the US Open once and has two gold medals to his name, along with leading Great Britain to a Davis Cup crown, but this marks the first time the Scot will earn the distinction of being the best men’s singles tennis player in the world.

Closer to home, Murray’s made big fans of Canadians, winning Rogers Cup three times and we hope to see him in our upcoming Davis Cup tie against Great Britain and back in Montreal for Rogers Cup in 2017!

The reactions have been pouring in, and there might be nothing sweeter than Andy’s mom’s post, putting it all into perspective.

Co-members of the ‘Big 4’, and former world No. 1s shared some love with Andy.

Often shouldering the weight of being “The Last British man to do xyz”, Murray has a few more bits of history secured by earning the top spot in the rankings.

There’s also something to be said for cracking through the dominance Novak Djokovic was known for during his remarkable run as world No. 1.

The possibility of Murray’s ascension to No. 1 has been a major storyline through the end of this season, and it is unfortunate it came lacking the drama that could have been, as Murray was slated to play Milos Raonic in the Paris semifinals.

Raonic unfortunately had to withdraw following a quad injury, and we hope he’s back on the courts feeling fit and healthy soon.

Some found it a little anticlimactic…

But at this point, we’ll go with it.

So, this particular scenario might not have been ideal, but fans are getting on board and sharing all kinds of awesome Murray memories celebrating the big achievement.

Compatriots Heather and Katie got excited!

Another Andy found time for a shout out too.

Olympians know Olympians.

Cool congrats from some noteworthy champs and players below.

AND THERE IS ALSO THIS. ?

Not to mention, THIS. ???

And Coldplay????

Meanwhile, how’s Andy celebrating? By taking in some practice, of course.

Andy also got some juniors on the court to help entertain the crowd.

He’ll just have to let that sink in.
