Before Daniel Nestor was the Daniel Nestor, he was a skinny teenager ranked 238 playing in his first Davis Cup against a strong Swedish team.
At just 19 years old, on January 31, 1992 inside the PNE Agrodome in Vancouver, Nestor would make waves by upsetting then-No. 1 Stefan Edberg in a comeback five-set thriller 4-6 6-3 1-6 6-3 6-4.
Nobody knew what would lie ahead for the talented teenager, but it was certainly an auspicious start to what would become an extraordinary career and the beginning of 20 years representing Canada at Davis Cup.
Here’s a #TBT bonus of Edberg congratulating Nestor on what likely stands as the biggest singles win of the Canadian’s career.
