With the BNP Paribas Open now in the books, it’s time for tennis to head east to Key Biscayne where the Miami Open is underway.
Canada will once again be well-represented at the combined event. Coming off his finals appearance in Indian Wells, Milos Raonic is seeded no. 12 in Miami and gets a first round bye. He awaits the winner of the match between American Denis Kudla and Hyeon Chung of Korea. Last year, Raonic was defeated in the third round by John Isner. For his part, Vasek Pospisil will meet Argentine Diego Schwartzman in the opening round. In qualifying, Peter Polansky lost his opener to Mikhail Kukushkin 6-3, 6-1.
On the women’s side, Eugenie Bouchard is slated to face Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic in the first round. A win and Bouchard will play ninth-seeded Roberta Vinci in round two. She is in the same section of the draw as Madison Keys, Belinda Bencic, and Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber.
Gabriela Dabrowski, Daniel Nestor, and Pospisil will all be competing in doubles.
Genie also welcomed fellow Canadian Heidi El Tabakh to Miami before showing off some sweet dance moves. 😉
