Entering her junior year at Stanford University, Canadian Carol Zhao (Richmond Hill, ON) is ranked no. 1 on the NCAA division I preseason women’s singles rankings.
This spring, Zhao was a finalist at the NCAA championships and enjoyed a successful summer on the pro circuit, highlighted by a gold medal in women’s doubles at the Pan Am Games in Toronto alongside Gabriela Dabrowski.
Zhao isn’t the only Canadian sitting high on this year’s preseason rankings. Brayden Schnur (Pickering, ON) is ranked no. 9 in men’s singles. The North Carolina Tar Heel was named first-team All-America for the second consecutive year and he was also named to the ITA Collegiate All-Star team.
Meanwhile, two-time defending NCAA doubles champion Erin Routliffe (Caledon, ON) is ranked no. 21 in singles in the new year and she will play as the no. 1 player for the University of Alabama. In addition to their two NCAA titles, Routliffe and her partner Maya Jansen won the USTA national playoffs to earn a wildcard for the U.S. Open main draw.
The NCAA tennis seasons kicks off in October.
