Tennis is filled with many inspirational women and some amazing mothers who support their playing children, or who are players themselves. In honour of Mother’s Day, we are paying tribute to some of our favourite tennis Moms.
Mother to Venus and Serena, the most famous sisters in tennis history, Oracene has been with her daughters every step of the way. She is not a coach in the traditional sense, but has had a huge influence on Venus and Serena, both on and off the court.
Judy is everyone’s favourite doting Mom on the tour. Not only has she helped her sons Andy and Jamie carve out successful careers, but she is now Great Britain’s Fed Cup captain and is inspiring young girls to take up tennis thanks to her innovative “Miss-Hits” program.
Check out our Q & A with Judy when she visited Montreal and Toronto in February for the TPA coaching conference.
Any Mom of four and two sets of twins deserves to be on this list. Plus, Mirka is married to Roger Federer. Need we say more?
Tennis’ newest Mom, Jelena and Novak welcomed their first child, Stefan, last October after tying the knot a few months earlier. In addition to her mother duties, Jelena is also actively involved in the Novak Djokovic Foundation which gives disadvantaged children the opportunity to grow and develop in a stimulating environment.
Denis Istomin is one of very few players on the ATP World Tour who is coached by his mother. Klaudiya has been working with Denis since his junior days.
The most popular tennis playing mom around, Kim Clijsters became the third mother to win a Grand Slam at the U.S. Open in 2009, 18 months after giving birth to her daughter Jada. The friendly Belgian retired from the game in 2012 and had a second child, son Jack, a year later.
A special thank you to all of the tennis moms out there on your special day!
