Filip Peliwo needed to qualify for the Knoxville Challenger in Tennessee and now the 23-year-old Canadian finds himself in the final.

Peliwo defeated no. 2 seed Henri Laaksonen in the semi-finals, 6-3, 6-0 in 45 minutes. This win comes on the heels of a big straight sets upset over no. 3 seed, rising American star Taylor Fritz.

The first set was fairly even between the two – both winning just over 70% of their first service points and two aces each. They traded breaks in the early stages, but with Laaksonen was only winning 25% of his second service points Peliwo was able to earn a second break to go up 5-3 and serve out the set.

In the second set Laaksonen called for a medical time-out for his right elbow in the second set, down a double break at 3-0. The Swiss was able to hang tight to finish the match but was ultimately unable to stage a comeback against Peliwo.

Peliwo has won six Futures titles in 2017 and is eyeing his first Challenger title of the season. He will play the winner of the all-American semi-final match between Bradley Klahn and Denis Kudla on Sunday.
