Canada’s Peter Polansky is through to the final at the Winnipeg National Bank Challenger, a combined men’s and women’s $75,000 ATP Challenger and $25,000 ITF Pro Circuit Challenger event running from July 10-16 in Winnipeg.

Polansky advanced with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 win over No. 4 seed Yasutaka Uchiyama of Japan. Polansky completed the semifinal in one hour and 45 minutes to reach his first ATP Challenger singles final of the season. On Sunday, Polansky takes on Slovenian Blaz Kavcic for the title in the first career meeting between the two.
Tournament top-seed Kavcic secured his place in the final with a 7-6(0), 6-3 win over Israel’s Edan Leshem. He will battle Canada’s Polansky in Sunday’s second match on the main court at Winnipeg Tennis Lawn Club, not before 1 p.m. local time / 2 p.m. ET. Polansky, currently ranked five spots off his career-high at world No. 127, will be going for his first title of 2017 and third career ATP Challenger trophy.

The men’s doubles title was also decided on Saturday afternoon. Top seeds Luke Bambridge of Great Britain and David O’Hare of Ireland hoisted the trophy following a 6-2, 6-2 win against Japan’s Yusuke Takahashi and Renta Tokuda in 50 minutes.

In the women’s draw, No. 4 seed Caroline Dolehide of the United States will meet Japan’s Mayo Hibi for a chance to take the $25,000 title. Dolehide defeated Shilin Xu of China 6-2, 6-3 in 85 minutes to book her trip to the final. She will make her bid for a second ITF Pro Circuit singles title of 2017.

On Sunday, the 18-year-old will meet No. 5 seed Hibi, who registered an upset over No. 1 seed Nicole Gibbs of the United States 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 in the semifinals.

The women’s doubles title was awarded as well, with Japan’s Hiroko Kuwata and Valeria Savinykh of Russia emerging victorious. They capitalized on Dolehide’s busy Saturday schedule and defeated the American and partner Kimberly Birrell of Australia 6-4, 7-6(4) in the final.

The Winnipeg National Bank Challenger is a combined $100,000 professional men’s and women’s tournament, and runs from July 10-16 at Winnipeg Lawn Tennis Club. For Sunday’s order of play, complete scores and full draws, please visit the official tournament website.
