Quarter-finals are set in 2017 U-18 Outdoor Rogers Junior Nationals

The best in junior Canadian tennis are competing at the Ontario Racquet Club in Mississauga from August 14th – 20th 2017. Past U-18 event champions include Canadian tennis pros Milos Raonic, Eugenie Bouchard, Vasek Pospisil, Gabriela Dabrowski and many more. In recent years, Next Gen standouts like Denis Shapovalov, Bianca Andreescu and Carol Zhao have also been crowned U-18 champions. The next Canadian tennis star could be among the extremely talented draw at the 2017 U-18 Outdoor Rogers Junior Nationals!

The tournament is ramping up as the third round play finished up on Wednesday setting up a packed Thursday of singles Quarter-final action! Here’s how the match ups look:

Boys:

Cleeve Harper vs.  Victor Krustev

Alberta’s Cleeve Harper upset the 2016 U16 champion Taha Baadi in the second round before playing Ryan Navarro on Wednesday. He defeated Navarro in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 to set up a match with Victor Krustev.

2016 U-18 Indoor doubles champion Victor Krustev is hoping to take home another title this year. The Ontario native will look to advance to the Outdoor Semi-finals against Harper on Thursday.

Alex-Antoine Marquis vs. Jack Davis

Quebec’s Marquis defeated qualifier Philippe Laroche 6-2, 6-4 to book his spot in the quarter-finals. His opponent is BC’s Jack Davis who bested Félix Roy-Arsenault 6-2 6-2 to earn his spot.

Niels Van Noord vs. Nick Lagaev

Ontario player Nick Lagaev bested Oscar Yang 6-3, 6-0 and will now face Niels Van Noord of Quebec. Van Noord won his third round match 6-1, 6-4 over Jonathan Sorbo.

Peter Kuszynski vs Nazar Achour

Kuszynski of Ontario defeated Kamen Damov 7-5, 7-6(6) in his third round match on Wednesday. Quebec’s Achour booked his quarter-final spot with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory over Ontario’s Liam Draxl.

Girls:

Layne Sleeth vs. Ariana Arseneault

Layne Sleeth won the 2016 U-18 Outdoor singles title last year and will look to repeat as she faces fellow Ontario native Ariana Arseneault in the quarter-finals. Sleeth defeated Savannah Ly 6-0, 6-3 on Wednesday to book her spot while Areseneault triumphed over Emma-Gabrielle Gorman 6-0, 7-5.

Rhea Varma vs. Anca Craciun

Verma defeated Minnie Kim 6-2, 6-3 on Wednesday and in another all-Ontario match will face Anca Craciun. Craciun defeated Jessie Jiaxin Gong 6-3, 6-2 to clinch a quarter-final berth.

Natasha Sengphrachanh vs. Alexandra Vagramov

Ontario’s Sengphrachanh is the 2016 U16 Outdoor singles champion and will look to repeat her success at the U-18 level. She defeated Kirsten Prelle 6-3, 6-2 and will now face BC’s Alexandra Vagramov. Vagramov won her last match 6-3, 6-0 over Corina Spasojevic.

Isabelle Boulais vs. Leylah Annie Fernandez

Ontario’s Boulais was the 2016 U-18 Outdoors doubles champion with partner Ines Milosevic. She defeated Rachel Hanford 6-3, 6-4 in the third round. Her opponent is Quebec’s Leylah Annie Fernandez who triumphed 7-6(3), 6-0 over Daniela Voloh to clinch the quarter-final berth.
