Milos Raonic retired after one game in his second round match against Yuichi Sugita on Thursday in Tokyo with an apparent calf injury. The game lasted eight minutes.

Raonic, who has been sidelined all summer due to a left wrist injury, was broken in his opening service game before calling it quits. In his previous match, Raonic played cautiously to avoid flaring the injury, opting to avoid hitting a two-handed backhand. Now, it appears there is a second ailment for him to deal with.

After his opening round match Raonic spoke to the media and suggested that the season needs to be shorter to help players avoid injury, stating he is the only player from the top 5 in 2016 to still be playing in 2017.

Raonic has also been forced to withdraw from the Shanghai Rolex Masters next week.
