Professional tennis is making its return to Richmond, British Columbia this year with the second annual Richmond Country Club Futures taking place June 20-28 at the Richmond Country Club. Sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the tournament will offer total prize money of $15,000 and feature world-class players from around the globe competing for the title.

“We are very pleased to be bringing professional tennis back to Richmond again this year,” said Gavin Ziv, vice-president, national and professional events, Tennis Canada. “The first edition of the Richmond Country Club Futures was a great success and we know the tournament will build on that this year. These events continue to be critical to growing the sport in Canada and providing our athletes with opportunities to compete on home soil. We hope sports fans in the area get the chance to come out, support the players, and take in some high-quality tennis in person.”

The Richmond Country Club Futures is one of 11 ITF Pro Circuit men’s events on the 2015 Canadian national competitive calendar, and the first of three in the province of British Columbia this summer. A $15,000 tournament in Kelowna will immediately follow the Richmond Country Club Futures while a $15,000 Vancouver Futures will occur July 18-26.

Many professional tennis players from both Canada and from around the world will be travelling to Richmond to compete for valuable rankings points. Among the Canadians set to compete are TORONTO 2015 Pan Am team members Philip Bester (North Vancouver) and Brayden Schnur (Pickering, Ont.), both of whom are former champions on the ITF Pro Circuit.

“We are excited to have such talented professional tennis players competing at the Richmond Country Club for a second straight year,” said Christine Lindsay, Richmond Country Club Futures tournament director. “We have a strong player list and know that the on-court action will be top-notch. Thank you to our sponsors and supporters for their help in making the Richmond Country Club Futures possible. We look forward to seeing the community out at the event once again and can’t wait for it to get started.”

The Richmond Country Club Futures will take place June 20-28 at the Richmond Country Club. Admission is free for the early rounds with $5 tickets on-sale for the quarter-finals through the final from Friday June 26 – Sunday June 28.
