Charlotte Robillard-Millette (Blainville, QC) posted an impressive win on Friday to reach the semifinals of the ITF Junior Masters in Chengdu, China.
The 17-year-old defeated 2016 Australian Open finalist Tereza Mihalikova of Slovakia 7-5, 6-4 to advance at the prestigious event which assembles the best junior players in the world.
Despite a long delay because of rain, Robillard-Millette remained focused and consistent to get the better of her opponent, who committed four double faults.
In Saturday’s semifinals, Robillard-Millette will face her good friend Katie Swan of Great Britain, ranked no. 3 in the world. The two players have met twice previously, in Repentigny in 2014 and the junior Fed Cup in 2015. Swan has won both meetings.
Robillard-Millette is guaranteed to finish in the Top 4 of an event that brings together the 16 best junior players in the world – 8 boys and 8 girls. This is the first time that Canada has been represented in the tournament.
