Two weeks after being named to Canada’s Fed Cup team for the first time for their World Group first round tie against the Czech Republic in Quebec City, we sat down with Charlotte Robillard-Millette (Blainville, QC) to talk about her maiden Fed Cup experience. Here’s what she had to say:

What did you think of your first Fed Cup tie?

CRM: It was a great experience. I really enjoyed spending time in Quebec. The atmosphere was fun and the team spirit was really good through the whole squad.

What are some of things that you learned from this experience?

CRM: I think it’s going to help me for the next time that I am hopefully named to the team. It won’t be my first time and I will know what to expect, what it’s like between the players, the intensity of the matches, and just how the whole week unfolds.

What were some of your favourite moments?

CRM: The official dinner was probably my favourite. Everyone was laid back and enjoying themselves and we were all really excited to get the tie started. It was a fun evening.

Did it help to have fellow Fed Cup rookie Françoise Abanda alongside to share the experience with you?

CRM: Yes I think so for sure. She was also doing everything for the first time so we were in it together.

It seemed like Sharon Fichman took you under her wing. Can you talk about her leadership?

CRM: She really did. I think Sharon is a natural leader and she proved it throughout the week. Anytime we weren’t sure what we should be doing, she guided us along, made us feel like part of the team and involved us in conversations. I think she had a big impact on the tie even though she didn’t play. She has a great attitude towards the whole team.
