It was a glass half full kind of day on Wednesday for Denis Shapovalov.

This morning, the 18-year-old found that he had been awarded for the Wimbledon main draw in what will be his first Grand Slam appearance. Last year, Shapovalov was crowned champion of junior Wimbledon.

This afternoon, Shapovalov went toe to toe with world no. 13 Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic for over two hours in the second round at Queen’s before falling 7-6(4), 6-7(4), 7-5. In the match, Shapovalov hit 42 winners, including 8 aces, and he did not face a break point until the final game.

Not only will Shapovalov rise up the rankings again to around no. 163 thanks to his performance this week, but he also became a fan favourite in London which should bode well for him at the All England Club in two weeks.
