RENE COLLINS

As a player, coach and now captain, Rene Collins continues to make a big impact on Canadian women’s tennis. Under her tuteledge, Canada has reached an all-time best No. 10 ranking on the ITF Fed Cup listings and competes in World Group II for the first time since 1996. As current Canadian Fed Cup captain, she tied the national record for consecutive 3-0 sweeps with four during the Americas Zone Group I tournament last year in Colombia. The last time the feat was achieved was May 1997 when Collins, as a player, joined her teammates in four straight sweeps in the same tournament.
As a player, she registered a career Fed Cup record of 20-16, including 18-9 on clay courts. Collins represented Canada in Fed Cup play from 1998-98 and holds the national mark for best Canadian doubles Fed Cup record at 6-1 with Sonya Jayaseelan. She captured three WTA Tour doubles titles and enjoyed a career high ranking of No. 70.
Collins led the Canadian Junior Fed Cup team in Mexico to compete for a spot in the world championships, a feat she accomplished as coach in 2003. She won the Tennis Canada Coaching Excellence Award in 2000 and 2001. Collins was Fed Cup coach from 19980-2000 and became the team captain in 2001.
