The best in junior Canadian tennis are competing at the Ontario Racquet Club in Mississauga from August 14th – 20th 2017. Past U-18 event champions include Canadian tennis pros Milos Raonic, Eugenie Bouchard, Vasek Pospisil, Gabriela Dabrowski and many more. In recent years, Next Gen standouts like Denis Shapovalov, Bianca Andreescu and Carol Zhao have also been crowned U-18 champions. The next Canadian tennis star could be among the extremely talented draw at the 2017 U-18 Outdoor Rogers Junior Nationals!

The U-18 outdoor Rogers junior nationals were hosted in Mississauga showcasing Canada’s best young tennis talent. It was a competitive week of tournament action with the final rounds taking place over the weekend. After the finals on Sunday, the girls and boys singles champions also won their respective doubles draws with both of their doubles partners also repeating as champions.

Ontario’s Victor Krustev did not drop a set en-route to being crowned both the singles and doubles U-18 champion.

Krustev bested doubles partner Jack Davis 6-4, 6-0 in the singles semifinals to advance to the final round. Fellow Ontario native Nick Lagaev defeated Quebec’s Nazar Achour 7-6(3), 6-3 in the other semifinal match.

The final match was a tightly contested battle between Lagaev and Krustev, however Krustev proved to be too much as he took the match 6-3, 6-4.

In a storybook tournament for Krustev, he also won the doubles title with partner Jack Davis. B.C’s Davis won the 2016 U-18 outdoor doubles crown with partner Eli Ogilvy and was able to repeat the feat this year with Krustev. The No. 2 seeded duo did not drop a set in the tournament, besting No. 3 seeds Liam Druxl and Jonathan Sorbo 6-1, 6-2 in the final match.

Defending champion Layne Sleeth lost in the semifinals to another Ontario born player as Rhea Varma upset the reigning champ 6-3, 6-4. Varma moved onto the finals against B.C’s Alexandra Vagramov. In her semifinal match, Vagramov defeated doubles partner Isabelle Boulais of Ontario 6-2, 6-4.

In the finals, Vagramov was able to power by Varma in straight sets, taking the match 6-3, 6-4. The newly minted singles champion was not done there as she also went on to take the doubles crown. No. 1 seeded duo Vagramov and Boulais defeated No. 2 seeded team Ariana Arsenault and Anca Craciun in the final. Their 6-2, 6-3 victory over Arsenault and Craciun closed out an impressive showing as Vagramov and Boulais did not drop a set all tournament. The title is Boulais’ second consecutive U-18 outdoor Rogers junior doubles championship after winning last year with partner Ines Milosevic.

Congratulations to all the participants and winners of the 2017 U-18 outdoor Rogers junior championships! After an incredible week of tournament action, there is more to come as the U-16 outdoor championships kick off on August 22nd
