An all-around solid performance by world no. 6 Caroline Wozniacki saw Genie Bouchard out of singles in Hong Kong in the first round on Tuesday night.

The pair have played once before at the inaugural Wuhan Open in 2014. Bouchard defeated Wozniacki 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinals.

In her first service game, Bouchard rallied from 0-40 down to hold and get on even terms with Wozniacki at 1-1 in the opening set.

Bouchard would face another test in her following service game, falling behind 15-40 before rallying to get to deuce. A couple of errors from Bouchard, however, allowed Wozniacki to capitalize on her sixth break point opportunity and go up an early break at 3-1.

Bouchard would eventually fall behind a double break, and Wozniacki would win her first set over the Canadian 6-1.

Struggling in the humid conditions, Bouchard was broken at the start of the second set. She was unable to recover from the early deficit, nor keep up with an inspired performance from Wozniacki across the net, dropping the second set 6-1.

Bouchard is still in doubles action with American Shelby Rogers. The pair will take to court on Wednesday.
