On the verge of capturing his seventh Futures title of the season, a back injury forced Canada’s Filip Peliwo to retire from the $25,000 Calgary Futures championship match on Sunday. American Ulises Blanch claimed the singles title at the Calgary Tennis Club with a 6-4, 0-0 (ret.) over the injured No. 1 seed.

Blanch reached a career-high junior ranking of world No. 3 in 2016 and has focused on playing Futures tournaments this season. Runner-up Peliwo was making a bid for his seventh Futures trophy of the season, before withdrawing in Calgary on Sunday.

The $25,000 Calgary Futures ran from August 28 – September 3 at the Calgary Tennis Club. For complete draws, full results and scores, please visit the official tournament website here.
