Canadians Bianca Andreescu and Jack Mingjie Lin started their Junior Australian Open tournaments on a positive note on Saturday, both earning first-round wins in Melbourne.
No. 1 seeded Andreescu posted a straightforward 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Japanese Satoko Sueno. The 15-year-old will take on New Zealand’s Jade Lewis in the second round.
On the boys’ side, Lin came back from deficits in both the first and second sets to win 6-4, 6-3 against German Nicola Kuhn, in what was his Slam debut. His second-round opponent will be No. 2 seed Miomir Kecmanovic of Serbia.
The three other Canadian juniors in Melbourne will look to join their compatriots in round two when they open their campaigns on Sunday – No. 3 seed Charlotte Robillard-Millette and No. 15 seed Katherine Sebov in the girls’ draw and No. 4 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in the boys’ event.
