It has been a good start to the 2018 season for Bianca Andreescu and Brayden Schnur. The Canadian pair has advanced to the quarter-finals of the Playford Challenger in Australia as they prep to compete in Australian Open qualifying beginning next week.
Andreescu reached the last eight of the $25,000 women’s event on Wednesday night thanks to a 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-2 victory over Brit Laura Robson. She’ll next face Aussie Zoe Hives. For his part, Schnur is quarter-final bound at the ATP Challenger tournament after defeating Oscar Otte of Germany 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 and will next meet former world no. 39 Marinko Matosevic of Australia.
Both Andreescu and Schnur will be making their Aussie Open pro debut in a few days, but first, they hope to pick up some hardware in Playford.
