Bianca Andreescu is set to play in the Bad Homburg final match on Saturday after fourth seed Simona Halep withdrew before the semi-finals on Friday after announcing a neck injury that enabled her to compete.
On Instgram Halep posted, “I am sorry that I had to withdraw today before my semifinal match. But unfortunately I woke up this morning with a blocked neck and this is not allowing me to perform to the best of my ability. I have had a great time here in Bad Homburg, I have enjoyed playing here very much.”
Dominating in the quarterfinal against top-seeded Daria Kasatkina Thursday, 6-4, 6-1, Andreescu has been consistent with her game throughout the tournament.
Andreescu’s last final was in 2021 against Ash Barty in Miami, and has not won a title since her memorable win against Serena Williams at the 2019 U.S. Open. After taking a break from the tour to rest, train and focus on her mental health and injuries, she returned this year at the Australian Open, and has been making an incredible comeback.
Cheer Bianca on during her first-ever grass-court final Bad Homburg on Saturday at 7:30 am. against either Alize Cornet or Caroline Garcia.
