Bui, Lapadat crowned U14 national champions

The top seeds in both the boys and girls singles draws took home top honours on Saturday at the U14 Indoor Rogers Junior Nationals at the Hollyburn Country Club in Vancouver, BC.

Joshua Lapadat of Ontario won the boys title after a 7-5, 6-4 win over Quebec’s Samuel Paquette in the final. Lapadat did not drop a set in four matches in the championship flight. Alvin Nicholas Tudorica of Ontario finished third. Lapadat and Tudorica also teamed up to capture the U14 boys’ doubles title.

The girls’ final was a battle between the tournament’s top two seeds with Jada Bui of Ontario coming out on top against Quebec’s Mélodie Collard 6-1, 6-1. Bui had to fight back from a set down in both her quarter-final and semifinal matches en route to the final. Third place went to Corina Spasojevic of Ontario. The Quebec pair of Erica Di Battista and Sarah-Maude Fortin were crowned doubles champions.
