A Canadian was guaranteed to win the China Open doubles title when the last two teams in contention took to the court on final Sunday at the ATP World Tour 500 event in Beijing, China.
Vasek Pospisil and his American partner Jack Sock captured their second title of the season thanks to a 3-6, 6-3, 10-6 win over Daniel Nestor and Edouard Roger-Vasselin of France. This was the first time that Nestor and Pospisil have faced eachother.
PospiSock take home their first doubles crown since Indian Wells in March and it is Pospisil’s fifth career ATP doubles trophy. The Canadian-American duo move up to no. 9 in the race to the Tour finals in London with the top 8 teams qualifying for the season finale.
For his part, Nestor was playing in his fifth final of 2015 and third with Roger-Vasselin. He is just a few victories away from becoming the first player in history to notch 1,000 career wins.
Pospisil, Nestor and Milos Raonic will all play in this week’s Shanghai Rolex Masters 1000 event.
