The Canadiens will face Switzerland and Italy in round robin
The official draw for the Billie Jean King Cup by BNP Paribas Finals was held today in London in the presence of Billie Jean King herself. The 12 countries that qualified for the Finals were divided into four groups. Team Canada presented by Safeway will be in Group A along with Switzerland (1) and Italy in a round robin tournament to be held in Glasgow, Scotland.
“We are very excited to be back at the Finals for a second year in a row,” said Canadian team captain Heidi El Tabakh following the draw. “We will definitely be in a tough group with Switzerland, the 2021 finalists, being the favourites and Italy, who will be competing in their first Finals under the new format, are improving and have some great players. However, we are more than ready for this challenge and look forward to showing everyone that Canada deserves its place among the best tennis countries in the world.”
The Finals will take place at the Emirates Arena on 8-13 November 2022. The 12 nations will compete in four round-robin groups of three teams with the four group winners advancing to the semi-finals. The winner of Group A will play the winner of Group D, and the winner of Group B will face the winner of Group C.
