It’s down to the final four at the U12 Indoor Rogers Junior National Championships in Calgary, with top seeds Dasha Plekhanova and Stefan Simeunovic heading the fields of the girls and boys draws.

Plekhanova defeated Bianca Jolie Fernandez from Quebec 6-2, 6-2 to earn her spot in the semifinals. Plekhanova, from Ontario, has not lost a set yet this week.

She will next face No. 3-seeded Quebecer Annabelle Xu, who was a 6-3, 6-0 winner over No. 5 seed Ana Grubor from Ontario.

The bottom half of the draw will see Alberta’s Mia Kupres take on No. 2 seed Danielle Tuhten from British Columbia. No. 9 seed Kupres advanced past No. 13 Kayla Cross of Ontario 6-4, 6-1 while Tuhten cruised 6-4, 6-0 over another Ontarian, Cadence Brace.

In the boys’ tournament, No. 1-seeded Simeunovic won a straightforward 6-3, 6-3 quarter-final match against fellow Ontario resident Matthew Overvelde. He will now take on the No. 3 seed from Quebec, Jaden Weekes, for a place in the final. Weekes was tested by Quebecer Christophe Clement but picked up a 7-6(3), 6-1 victory.

Lachlan Robertson - U12 nationals

No. 2 seed Lachlan Robertson of BC is also still in contention. He triumphed 7-5, 6-2 over fellow west-coaster Henry Ren to set up a match-up versus the unseeded Aron Pilbart. Also from BC, Pilbart won 7-6(3), 6-3 opposite Ontario’s Sasha Rozin.

The semifinals will take place at The Tennis Academy in Calgary on Thursday. For the complete draws, please visit tc.tournamentsoftware.com.
