Denis Shapovalov seemed on his way to a second straight win over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and a third round berth in his Australian Open main draw debut, but the Frenchman had other plans.

The 18-year-old Canadian led two sets to one and served for the match at 5-3 in the fifth frame, but was unable to close the deal.

In a match that featured impressive shot making throughout, many of the highlight reel variety, Tsonga came out the victor of the  3 hour, 37 minute highly entertaining contest 3-6, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6(4), 7-5.

That means that Eugenie Bouchard is the lone Canadian remaining in singles in Melbourne. She’ll face World No. 1 Simona Halep in her second round match on Wednesday night at 3 a.m. E.T. on TSN.
