At the 2019 Parapan American Games in Lima, Peru, Canadian Rob Shaw won gold in the quad singles final of the wheelchair tennis competition and made history as the first Canadian tennis player (able-bodied or wheelchair) to win a singles gold medal in a multisport competition.

Canada earned its very first Parapan American medal in 2015 in Toronto, when Philippe Bédard and Joel Dembe teamed up to win bronze in men’s doubles.

Launched in Mexico City, Mexico in 1999, the first Parapan American Games featured four sports. Men’s and women’s wheelchair tennis was added at the 2003 Games in Mar del Plata, Argentina.

The 2019 Games in Lima were the first to include quad singles and doubles.
