Peter Kruyt, Chair of the Board of Directors

Tennis Canada is proud to announce that Montreal native, Mr. Peter Kruyt has been appointed Chair of its Board of Directors as Jennifer Bishop becomes Past Chair having completed her three-year term as Chair.

“Jennifer Bishop brought Tennis Canada through the most challenging period of its 132-year history. Today, it is in an enviable position as a National Sports Organization; in solid financial condition, with respected world-class athletes, critical programs that support Women and Girls in Tennis and Safe Sport, and a long term sponsorship with the National Bank and Rogers, to name only a few of Jennifer’s missions. Tennis Canada is proud that she continues to bring her talents to the International Tennis Federation committees. I am grateful for the leadership she provided as Chair and look forward to working with her to build on the strong foundation she forged,” said Peter Kruyt “I am honoured to take on this role at such an exciting time for tennis in Canada.”

Outgoing Chair Jennifer Bishop welcomed the appointment. “I am honoured and proud to have served as the Chair of the Board. Tennis is a life-long passion of mine and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to give back. I look forward to continuing my role on the Board, the Executive Committee and Chair of the Nominating Committee. Canada is now a leading tennis nation, and Tennis Canada will continue to thrive with Peter as our new Chair. He is dedicated, motivated and a great leader. We have worked closely together over the past three years and I am confident that under his leadership, our organization will achieve even greater heights. It is truly my pleasure to be passing the torch to such a worthy candidate.”

Peter Kruyt joined Tennis Canada’s Board of Directors in 2019, bringing a broad range of business experience. Kruyt joined Power Corporation in 1981, as Executive Assistant to the Chairman and CEO, then as Vice-President until 2018, currently he is a senior advisor to the company. Mr. Kruyt also served in a number of volunteer roles including as chairman of: Concordia University for 7 years, the Canada China Business Council for 16 years and currently is Chair of the McGill University Health Centre and its Research Institute.

Peter Kruyt takes office today, as of May 11, 2022.
