The U15 Canadian Prospect Team structure is designed to help track, monitor, support and develop young prospects, aged 10-14 years old, working in tandem with the private sector coaches, parents, Regional Training Centres, National Coaches part of the U15 player development team, academies, and Provincial and Territorial Tennis Associations.
OVERVIEW
Tennis Canada’s High Performance staff will help U15 players meet the revised Whole Player Develop Pathway (WPDP) training, competition, competence, and character guidelines.
The core of the support provided through this program is based on assessing each prospect’s daily training environment and identifying any gaps that can be filled with support by a National Coach at the Regional Training Centres, in their home training environment or with competition support
PLAYER IDENTIFICATION
The U15 Canadian Prospect Team is identified using a combination of criteria including player profile (technical, tactical, physical, mental competencies), competitive results, and environment including parents’ and coach’s collaboration and commitment. A committee, led by the Head of U15 Development, and including national coaches, will make annual decisions.
TIMELINES
- Final U15 Canadian Prospect Team nominations will be made annually following the Outdoor Junior Nationals.
- Selected players will remain part of the program for a minimum of one year, provided that they continue to demonstrate strong commitment to development and improvements.
40 PLAYERS NAMED ON THE U15 CANADIAN PROSPECT TEAM CLASS OF 2024-25
19 girls and 21 boys aged between 13 and 15 make up the new cohort which began its season with a series of camps in October. They were the first opportunity for the athletes to train and compete together, allowing them to focus on key aspects of their development under the guidance of Tennis Canada’s high-performance coaches. The first camp was held during the week of October 14 in Toronto, and two more were organized during the weeks of October 28 and November 4 in Montreal.
In 2025, Tennis Canada will invite members of the U15 Canadian Prospect Team to several more national camps to train, consolidate their technical foundations, target areas for improvement and take part in competition, networking and personal development opportunities. The camps are at no cost to the players, and the focus will be on creating a safe, inclusive and stimulating environment.
