Carla Suarez Navarro smiles and flexes her arms, wearing a shirt that reads Stronger Than Cancer

Carla Suarez Navarro beats cancer

Carla Suarez Navarro, former World No. 6, has finally come out on social media with great news: she has beaten cancer! The Spaniard had announced she had been diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in September last year and received several support messages from players and fans. She has reached her best result here in Canada in 2014, a Quarter-final showing in Montreal, where she lost to eventual runner-up Venus Williams in three sets.

Very happy you’re doing alright, Carla!! Lovely smile 😊

Billie Jean King Cup: Team Canada wins!

I can’t stress enough just how excited I am with Canada’s win over Serbia at the Billie Jean King cup last Saturday. The whole team did so great! Finishing with a perfect 4-0 score, with Leylah Fernandez leading the way with two wins was really satisfying to watch.

Carol, Leylah, Rebecca, Sharon: thank you for being awesome (in alphabetical order because you are all equally amazing ❤️)

Yay, we’re on clay!

Now that we are deep in the dirt, that is, the clay season, there are some things we will be seeing often (to my delight): amazing baseline rallies, clay-court sliding, and Rafael Nadal.

So, first, the first clay court ATP Masters 1000 of the season: Monte-Carlo! Having finished on Sunday April 18th, World No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas claimed his first ATP Masters 1000.

He also joined a list of incredible winners, along with Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Gustavo Kuerten, and… his mother!

And, speaking of Guga, look who’s having a really good time… I guess if you were the former King of Clay you can afford to take a break 🏄!

Rafa Nadal Fan-Service

As I’m talking about clay, it’s only fair that I show you some Rafael Nadal stats, and a fantastic point he played in Barcelona this Thursday. Because we almost have to ask him permission to post anything about clay, since he’s the undeniable King of that surface.

Earth Day

It was Earth Day yesterday! It is so important that we observe this day, not because we talk about green stuff all day, but because we can remind ourselves to always improve our sustainability efforts, be it on a personal or business level!

Also, thank you, Sharon Fichman, for supporting Tennis Canada and taking action for the Earth 🤗

Fun Facts

To conclude, here’s two important facts:

Misaki Doi is great at shuffling! But I sure haven’t heard that song in a hot minute, what a throwback 😆

And there’s a newly discovered species that was named after Novak Djokovic. That’s right, a snail. At least Djokovic likes it! 🐌
