tie to be played in Canada in April 2022

On Saturday, at the Billie Jean King Cup by BNP Paribas Finals in Prague, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) held the draw ceremony for the 2022 edition. Team Canada presented by Sobeys’ opponent in the qualifying round, which will be held in April 2022 was determined. Canada will face Latvia at home on April 15 and 16, 2022. The choice of playing surface, and site, as well as the rosters will be decided later. Canada last hosted the Billie Jean King Cup in 2018, when it defeated Ukraine.

At the very first edition of the Billie Jean King Cup Finals, Canada secured one win and suffered one loss in the round-robin event. After surprising current titleholder France, Canada lost to the Russian Tennis Federation, which went on to qualify for the semifinals.

As the highest ranked country among the winners of the ties played last April, Canada was awarded a spot in Group A at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals after 2020 host nation Hungary withdrew. The tournament was postponed twice before moving to Czechia.

The two 2021 finalists, Russian Tennis Federation and Switzerland both automatically qualify for the 2022 Billie Jean King Cup by BNP Paribas Finals. The ten other nations will fight in the qualifying rounds along with the eight winners of the 2021 Billie Kean King Cup ties.
