One year after Canada's Davis Cup team was crowned champion, the Canadian Billie Jean King Cup team followed suit following a 2-0 win over Italy in the 2023 final. Canada became just the 13th nation to win this prestigious event.
Leylah Annie Fernandez was flawless throughout Canada's 2023 run, finishing with a perfect 8-0 overall record during the Qualifiers and Finals. She played a critical role in her country's victories against powerhouses like Czechia and Italy.
Following their 2023 triumph, Canada climbed to the top of the Billie Jean King Cup Nations Rankings for the first time, moving from no. 6 before the Finals to claim the No. 1 spot.
As part of the ITF's "Advantage All" gender-equality initiative, Canada received a record $2.4 million in prize money for being crowned 2023 champions.
In order for Team Canada to contend for a second Billie Jean King Cup title in 2026, they first need to get through this week’s play-off round. The 2023 champions are heading down to Monterrey, Mexico this week for the Play-offs, looking to get back into the qualifying round next spring.
Team Canada is once again boasting a young lineup full of players mostly, if not entirely, new to the competition. But don’t let their experience or age fool you.
