Holistic development program supporting young Canadian prospects
The U15 Canadian Prospect Team structure is designed to help track, monitor, support and develop young prospects, aged 10-14 years old, working in tandem with the private sector coaches, parents, Regional Training Centres, National Coaches part of the U15 player development team, academies, and Provincial and Territorial Tennis Associations.
Ongoing and honest communication between Tennis Canada, private sector coaches, players and families will be critical to the success of this program.
Program Overview
Tennis Canada’s High Performance staff will help U15 players meet the Whole Player Development Pathway (WPDP) training, competition, competence, and character guidelines.
The core of the support provided through this program is based on assessing each prospect’s daily training environment and identifying any gaps that can be filled with support by a national coach at one of our Regional Training Centres, in their home training environment, or with competition support.
Player Identification
The U15 Canadian Prospect Team is identified using a combination of criteria including player profile (technical, tactical, physical, mental competencies), competitive results, and environment including parent and coach collaboration and commitment. A committee, led by the head of U15 development, and including national coaches, will make annual decisions.
Timelines
- Final U15 Canadian Prospect Team nominations will be made annually following the Outdoor Junior Nationals.
- Selected players will remain part of the program for a minimum of one year, provided that they continue to demonstrate strong commitment to development and improvements.
30 PLAYERS NAMED TO THE U15 CANADIAN PROSPECT TEAM CLASS OF 2025-2026
The U15 Canadian Prospect Team kicked off a new season this fall, with 14 girls and 16 boys participating in the first set of camps held in Toronto and Montreal. In 2023, the program made its official debut and is now entering its third year, with the continued objectives of supporting promising young players in taking the next step in their development, as well as fostering high performance and a team environment.
Under the guidance of Tennis Canada's high-performance staff and in collaboration with private sector coaches, academies, Regional Training Centres (RTC), and Provincial and Territorial Tennis Associations, the U15 camps, which are at no cost to the players, are designed to monitor, evaluate and analyze key performance indicators for each athlete in order to set individualized milestones. A second set of camps will be held in the spring of 2026, where progress is tracked and re-evaluated.
