Tennis Canada confirmed on Tuesday that Fredericton, New Brunswick will host an ITF Women’s Challenger in 2020. Prize money for the event – which will take place from Monday, March 16th until Sunday, March 22nd, 2020 – will total $25,000 USD. The tournament will be contested on the indoor hard courts of the Abony Family Tennis Center.

“We are pleased to add another ITF Women’s Challenger event to the Canadian calendar,” commented Gavin Ziv, Vice-President of professional events at Tennis Canada. “Fredericton has a rich history in tennis, and we are delighted the circuit will return to New Brunswick in 2020 and for years to come. Hopefully this is a spark for many more of these events in the future in Eastern Canada. This event will provide Canadian players in particular a valuable opportunity to pick up precious points early in the season and on home soil.”

The addition of the event in Fredericton means it will join the Saskatoon, Granby, Vancouver, Saguenay and Tevlin (Toronto) Challenger tournaments as part of the Canadian ITF Women’s circuit. The Abony Family Tennis Center, where the event will be held, is a six-court indoor facility just a few kilometers from downtown Fredericton.

“We are extremely proud and excited to host an ITF Women’s Challenger event in Fredericton, at the Abony Family Tennis Center,” commented Tournament Director Rufus Nel. “We look forward to welcoming the players to the city in March for what we are sure will be a thrilling week of tennis. We would like to express our gratitude to Tennis Canada for providing us with the opportunity to hold this event and to our sponsors and partners for their support in making it possible.”
