With just a couple of days to go before the start of the 2019 Canadian University Tennis Championships, excitement is building at the Sobeys Stadium in Toronto and Stade IGA in Montreal! The semi-final matches take place on August 10, with the final and third-place matches the following day.

For the first time in history, the same four teams in both the men’s and women’s divisions have qualified to the national championships. Memorial University, Université de Montréal, University of Alberta, and Western University will battle it out for the title of national champion. These four universities boast strong results from the past season which culminated in winning their respective regional championships earlier this year. All have won national tennis titles in the past with the exception of Memorial, who had a breakthrough performance in claiming the Atlantic University Tennis League title to advance to the nationals for the first time in program history!

The live draw took place during the coaches’ meeting on July 18. As luck would have it, the men’s and women’s teams face the same opponents in the semi-final matches on August 10. The Western Mustangs and Memorial Seahawks will battle it out in one semi-final, with defending champions Université de Montréal Carabins facing the University of Alberta Golden Bears (men’s team) and Pandas (women’s team) in the other semi-final.

The teams have been working hard all summer in preparation for their final tournament of the season. Contact sronan@tenniscanada.com for ticket information, and come out and cheer on the players as the top university teams in the country battle to take home the title of national champion!
