On this week’s episode of Match Point Canada, Mike and Ben catch up with recent Grand Slam champion, Erin Routliffe! The 28-year-old, who is both Canadian and New Zealand nationality, just won her first ever women’s doubles major alongside Ottawa’s Gaby Dabrowski.

Routliffe details how the recent partnership with Dabrowski came together and talks about why they meshed so well on the court.

“As far as us meshing well quickly… for us with our game styles, it was really, really natural,” says Routliffe.

“We’re really open with each other – probably the number one reason this happened is because we’re honest with each other about everything.”

Routliffe and Dabrowski played in just their fourth tournament together at Flushing Meadows, when they produced the incredible breakthrough result and victory.

For Dabrowski, it’s also her first ever women’s doubles slam, and third overall major.

“To win a grand slam, I think the stars really have to align for two weeks,” added Routliffe.

“We lost a set in our first round, our second round we were down a break in the third set, we always kept fighting and never gave up.”
