The U16 and U12 Fischer Outdoor Junior Nationals both get started this week in Toronto and Laval, respectively. This is following the conclusion of the U18 Outdoor Championships in the Ontario capital this past weekend.
U16
The boys’ and girls’ singles draw will each have a new champion this year.
Alden S.K. Yu was nearly an Indoor Nationals singles titlist earlier in the season, making the final back in March, but ended up falling short. The British Columbian will now look to reach the winner’s circle at the Outdoor Championships, in search of his first National singles title.
Yu did get his hands on the doubles trophy at the Indoors alongside teammate Ilya Sherifali, who is also part of the field.
Deniz Karabulut tries to make it back-to-back summers with a National title following his U14 Outdoors triumph last year. Runner-up Nikola Bogojevic will hope for another chance at a trophy.
On the girls’ side, Yoyo Siyi Li is playing a few years up than she did earlier in the season. The Saskatchewanian won the U12 Indoors in March without dropping a single set.

Romy Gravenor and Ève Thibault will be the favourites in doubles. The Quebeckers earned two titles at the Indoors, winning both the U18 and U16 Championships as a duo.
U12
Daniel Marinov enters Laval as the qualifying round-robin top seed. The Ontarian completed the sweep at the Indoor Championships this season, securing both the singles and doubles titles. Marinov was also a finalist at the Outdoors last year.
Lucca Teixeira comes in as the second seed after finishing as runner-up at the Indoors.

With Indoor Championships titlist Li playing at the U16s in Toronto, the U12 Outdoors will have a fresh champion this year. Zoe Mao of Alberta will start round-robin play as the top seed, ahead of Adelina Tanashikova at second.
