With the Fischer Indoor Junior Nationals right around the corner, Canada’s juniors are building momentum on the ITF Tour. Over the last four weeks, the Canucks were making deep runs all over the place, especially throughout the Americas.
Here is the monthly junior tennis update.
26 different Canadians combined to reach 25 finals, winning seven titles (doubles finals and titles involving multiple Canadians counts as one) since the last time we checked in with the juniors.
Elisabeth Djabourian accounted for two of those titles, going back-to-back in doubles at a pair of ITF J60 events in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Partnering with American Aarini Bhattacharya, they only dropped two sets across the two events.
The first draw in San Luis Potosi was the tougher one for Djabourian and Bhattacharya, as they rallied from a set down in the quarter-finals against the all-Canadian pair of Amy Shen and Rachel Wu. Then in the final, they edged out the top-seeded team 10-7 in the match tiebreak.

A week later, they had a much easier time, winning the title without dropping a set. Impressively, Djabourian and Bhattacharya beat the same two teams that had given them trouble the prior week back-to-back in the semis and final, this time scoring both wins in straight sets. The two titles doubled the 14-year-old Canadian’s career total on the ITF Junior circuit.
The biggest win of the month by a Canadian came in Lima, Peru, where Benjamin Azar reached both the singles and doubles finals, securing the J300 doubles title with Frenchman Mathys Domenc. It was the biggest title of the 17-year-old's career. He lost to his doubles partner in the singles final.
