This week on Match Point Canada, Ben and Mike welcome one of the most recognizable faces in tennis coverage on TV, with Tennis Channel host and personality Steve Weissman stopping by to join them. It’s the American anchor’s third visit back to the podcast and the enthusiasm he has for the sport is hard to match!

The guys discuss the major moments at the Miami Open including the continued hot streak that Daniil Medvedev is on as he captured his fourth title already of 2023. They also chat about the resurgence of 33-year-old Petra Kvitova which has both the hosts and their guest gushing about the incredible respect she enjoys on the WTA Tour both on and off the court.

Weissman also shares his hopes for a Carlos Alcaraz-Novak Djokovic match-up in the near future as the two players have already traded the World No. 1 ranking several times this season.

“That’s something that we’ve been yearning for all season long and I hope it happens on the clay because we’ve seen them play each other before and they’ve been fantastic matchups, and Alcaraz can beat the guy. It will be super exciting and there will be super long points. Just to get to see somebody push Novak Djokovic right now and I think Carlitos can do that.”

After their high-tempo conversation with Weissman, Ben and Mike discuss the very unfortunate injury sustained by Bianca Andreescu in her run to the round of 16 and also why they both feel good things are ahead for the 2021 Miami Open finalist when she returns to action.

They close the episode with a quick discussion of the Pickle Ball Slam – a non-tennis event that featured legends Andre Agassi, Michael Chang, John McEnroe and Andy Roddick – and share their curiosity and concerns that the sport presents at the same time.
