On this week’s episode of Match Point Canada, Ben and Mike welcome one of the more unique and authentic personalities in the sport today.

Romanian Andreea Prisacariu joins the podcast for her second appearance as she discusses her evolving tennis career.

The 23-year-old recently won the first ITF title of her career in Italy. She made the sporting news last season with her humourous and charismatic rookie speech at the Billie Jean King Cup.

Now, Prisacariu is focused on a day-by-day approach to her career.

“I focused on my team and my self development, and family love and added a mental coach that made a huge difference,” says Prisacariu.

“What I’m working on is focusing on being in the present.”

The Romanian also shared insights on some of her idols in the sport, including the men’s world No. 1 and 22-time grand slam champion.

“Djokovic is forever my inspiration. He saved my career many times through my years – when I was a junior, I used to search his videos on YouTube and I was falling asleep with his voice in the room.

In the meantime, Ben and Mike break down action from the tennis calendar.

Carlos Alcaraz nabbed his third title of the season, defending his crown at the Barcelona Open with a victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Iga Swiatek returned to the winner’s circle in Stuttgart, and there are now lingering injury concerns for Rafael Nadal and struggles for Novak Djokovic.

The hosts also peek ahead at Canadians in the field in Madrid this upcoming week, as Bianca Andreescu returns from injury and Felix Auger-Aliassime begins his clay campaign.
