The final Grand Slam of the tennis is season is officially upon us!

What better guest to join us for a US Open Preview than a major champion in New York himself?

World No. 3 Daniil Medvedev is our special guest on this week’s episode of Match Point Canada, as we caught up with the 2021 US Open winner at the National Bank Open in Toronto.

Medvedev delves into his mindset during practice, how he approaches his goals in the sport, the absence of the Big 3, and his unique positioning on return.

“I think, like everything in tennis, there are advantages and disadvantages.”

“What it gives me (the deep return) is a lot of time after I hit the return. The opponent is going to think that they hit it in the open space, it’s a winner. But I have so much time to run, while my ball is in the air.”

As for Carlos Alcaraz, Medvedev described a great practice with the world No. 1 in Toronto, and how you always must adapt if you want to defeat a top player.

“I will change it (tactics) until the moment I can beat him”, says the 20-time ATP titlist.

Meantime, we look at both the men’s and women’s draws from Flushing Meadows

Are we expecting another Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz final? and which players could give them problems?

A possible quarter-final between Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff could take place on the women’s field, while we select potential darkhorse picks like Zheng Qinwen.

We also look at the Canadian crop of players as Milos Raonic, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Leylah Fernandez, Rebecca Marino, and Gaby Dabrowski all get set for action.

All of that and more on our latest episode of MPC!
