As the Asian swing gets underway on the ATP and WTA tour, no Canadians were in main-draw action in any of the opening events.

But, with the China Open about to begin in Beijing, Victoria Mboko and Leylah Annie Fernandez are among the Canucks in the field at the season’s second-to-last WTA 1000. While Denis Shapovalov and Gabriel Diallo take the court at the ATP 500 Tokyo.

Here’s what you need to know.

In Case You Missed It: Stops at the Aisle for Shapovalov and Auger-Aliassime

Two Canadians traded the court for the aisle this past week.

Tennis Canada offers its congratulations to Shapovalov and Mirjam Björklund who officially tied the knot.

“It was really special,” the Richmond Hillian said. “Every day we had in Greece with our close friends and family was better than we could have ever asked for and I’m so excited I got to marry my best friend in such an incredible setting.”

What to Watch: Mboko, Fernandez Seeded in Beijing

The 2025 China Open in Beijing will feature three Canadians in the women’s singles draw as Mboko will play in her first WTA 1000 since her National Bank Open triumph.

The Canadian No. 1 enters as the No. 21 seed, in what could be a tricky draw. Mboko may face world No. 12 Clara Tauson in the third round before a potential clash against home favourite Qinwen Zhang, playing in her first event since Wimbledon.

Fernandez is seeded four spots back of her fellow Canadian. With second-round wins, the Lavalloise could meet world No. 3 and defending champion Coco Gauff in the round of 32.

And making her return from an injury that forced her to withdraw from the NBO, Bianca Andreescu is using her protected ranking to participate in the main draw in Beijing, where she’ll open the tournament against world No. 28 Magda Linette.

East of the Chinese capital, a pair of Canadian men gear up for play in Tokyo.

Shapovalov’s opening match is against German Daniel Altmaier, and if the Canadian No. 2 is able to string together a pair of wins, he's projected to play No. 4 seed Casper Ruud in the quarter-final. Carlos Alcaraz is also in the same half of the draw.

Diallo’s blockbuster matchup is right in the first round as the Montrealer meets a familiar foe, Taylor Fritz, for the third time this year. The American No. 1 won both previous meetings – a five-setter at Wimbledon and a straight-sets win at the NBO.

Under the Radar: George Wins First ITF Title

16-year-old Benjamin Thomas George secured his first-career ITF title in Serbia at the M15 Kursumlijska Banja.

George and his partner Anton Arzhankin upset the No. 1 seeds in the quarter-final then dropped just one game against the No. 3 seeds to book their place in the final. The duo defeated No. 4 seeds Fermin Tenti and Marlon Vankan 6-3, 6-2 to hoist the trophy.
