Tennis Canada announced on Thursday that Team Canada’s Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Play-offs, held at Club Sonoma in Monterrey, Mexico, will be broadcast on TVA Sports and livestreamed by CBC Sports on CBC Gem, cbcsports.ca and the CBC Sports YouTube channel.
Playing in Group A, the No. 6-ranked Canadians will face No. 26 Denmark on Saturday, November 15 and No. 20 Mexico on Sunday, November 16, in the three-team, round-robin format. The group winner will advance to the 2026 Qualifiers, while the nations finishing in second and third place will compete in their respective regional Group I event in 2026.
Led by first-time captain Marie-Ève Pelletier, filling in for regular captain Heidi El Tabakh, the Canadian roster consists of Victoria Mboko (Burlington, ON), Gabriela Dabrowski (Ottawa, ON), Marina Stakusic (Mississauga, ON), Carson Branstine (Montreal, QC) and Cadence Brace (Toronto, ON). Both Branstine and Brace are making their Billie Jean King Cup debuts. The Canadian squad, which has won six of its last eight ties, is aiming to reach the BJK Cup Qualifiers for the fifth time.
“I’m very proud of the team that we have here,” said Pelletier. “We’ve had a great time – great energy and really excited. I think we’re all set and ready to go for this weekend.”
“I’m really happy with the team we have, and I feel very comfortable with them,” said Mboko. “I’m just really excited overall for the tournament, and I hope we can bring out some good tennis to help us get through these rounds.”
On the other side of the court, Team Denmark is led by captain Jens-Anker Andersen and includes Johanne Svendsen, Rebecca Munk Mortensen, Emma Kamper and Laura Brunkel. Team Mexico is captained by Agustin Moreno, and their team consists of Renata Zarazua, Victoria Rodriguez, Julia Garcia, Marian Gomez Pezuela Cano and Giuliana Olmos.
