On Tuesday, the draw for the 2026 Davis Cup by Generali Final 8 took place at the Palazzo Pepoli in Bologna, Italy, determining the quarter-final matchups for the eight nations vying to become world champions. Team Canada, one of four non-seeded nations in the Final 8, will face No. 4 seed Czechia in its opening matchup.
Team Canada returns to the Final 8 after missing the final stage of the competition in 2025. In February, Canada defeated Brazil 3-2 in the Qualifiers 1st Round in Vancouver, British Columbia. This past weekend, the Canadian team of Félix Auger-Aliassime (Montreal, QC), Liam Draxl (Newmarket, ON), Duncan Chan (Markham, ON), and Keegan Rice (Regina, SK) defeated France 3-1 in Quebec City in the Qualifiers 2nd Round to secure their spot in Bologna.
Following the victory at Quebec City’s Centre Vidéotron, the Canadian squad, led by captain Frank Dancevic, rose to No. 8 in the world rankings. However, the ranking left Canada outside the top four seeds, meaning the team was guaranteed to face one of Italy, Spain, Germany, or Czechia in the quarter-finals.
Despite their long Davis Cup histories, Canada and Czechia have never met in an official tie. A win could set up a semi-final against three-time defending champion Italy, whom Canada leads 4-0 all-time.
