Representation from coast-to-coast-to-coast on the recipients list

Tennis Canada has selected ten programs to receive $5,000 each in funding via the Game. Set. Equity. Community Tennis Grants presented by National Bank for fall and winter 2023. Spanning four provinces and one territory, the diverse range of recipients includes wheelchair tennis, blind tennis and university tennis initiatives from across the country with a focus on women and girls programming.

Tennis Canada and National Bank opened the application process for the sought-after investment in June. To meet the specified criteria, applicants had to demonstrate the funding would be directed towards initiatives dedicated to the participation, retention and/or advancement of self-identifying women and girls.

“In just the second year of the Game. Set. Equity. Community Tennis Grants program, we have seen such a positive response from the tennis community in Canada,” said Terri Temelini, Director, Women & Girls Advancement, Tennis Canada. “We know there is some incredible work being done to increase participation among women and girls and to deliver positive tennis experiences for them across the country. The ten recipients announced today show the nationwide impact of this program, with representation from coast-to-coast-to-coast. We would like to thank National Bank for their continued support and congratulate each recipient program; we cannot wait to see how these initiatives grow and develop as a result of the investment.”

“Rallying behind Canadian tennis means supporting major tournaments, as well as promoting local initiatives like these that have a positive impact on the community. Congratulations to the selected organizations! You’re making a difference for young female athletes across the country,” said Lucie Blanchet, Executive Vice-President, Personal Banking and Client Experience at National Bank of Canada.

The Game. Set. Equity. Community Tennis Grants are a demonstration of Tennis Canada and National Bank’s commitment to create sustainable change for women and girls in all areas of tennis, from high-performance and coaching to leadership and beyond.

Eight recipients were selected to receive the program’s first round of grants in March. Tennis Canada continues to run a content series to spotlight each initiative on its website and social media channels.

The application process for the next round of Game. Set. Equity. Community Tennis Grants will open in early 2024.
