The 2023 Canadian University Championships came to a thrilling conclusion on Sunday, as the University of Alberta’s women’s club and the Université de Montréal’s men’s team were crowned champions. The Canadian University Championships is an annual event that showcases the top tennis talent from schools across Canada. This year, the event was held on the grounds of IGA Stadium in Montreal, Quebec, from August 11 to 13.

In the women’s final, Alberta’s Pandas took on the Western University Mustangs. Both clubs dominated their opponents in the semi-finals, and the highly anticipated matchup on Sunday did not disappoint, as the Pandas snuck by the Mustangs by a score of 4-3 to claim the title. The victory marks a fourth straight crown for the Pandas.

Meanwhile, in the men’s division, the Carabins from the Université de Montréal secured their title with a win over the University of Alberta’s Golden Bears. After losing in last year’s finals, the Carabins came out firing in this year’s championship matchup, defeating the Golden Bears 4-0.

In the third-place playoffs, McGill University took out Dalhousie University in the women’s division, while the men’s Western University team also defeated the Nova Scotian school.

  • Coach of the tournament: Ivan Quintero & Kyle Sluchinski (Alberta) and Rached Rihani & Delphie Poulin (Montréal)
  • MVP: Emma Rutherford (Alberta) and Philippe Giroux (Montréal)
