After completing four projects in 2025, the National Bank Play Your Court Program continues to grow. On Thursday, in partnership with the City of Mississauga and National Bank, Tennis Canada officially celebrated the reopening of the revitalized tennis courts at Lisgar Fields. Three additional municipalities selected to receive funding will be announced next year.

The four refurbished courts at Lisgar Fields mark Mississauga’s second completed project, following the reopening of Garnetwood Park in June. In a city of more than 700,000 residents, thousands of people and families now have access to upgraded courts that encourage tennis and active living.

With $100,000 seed money awarded to each project, the National Bank Play Your Court Program makes it possible to resurface public tennis courts and install new posts, nets, fencing, and signage. With local representatives and community members on hand, each new opening ceremony showcases the program’s lasting impacts.

“Through the National Bank Play Your Court Program, our goal is to go beyond simply upgrading tennis infrastructure. It’s about building modern, accessible spaces that bring young people, families, and entire communities together to enjoy the game,” said Gavin Ziv, Chief Executive Officer, Tennis Canada. “Projects like Lisgar Fields show how, by working closely with municipalities and our partners, we can build a lasting legacy and help tennis continue to grow across the country. We’re excited to announce more communities that will benefit from the initiative and see the meaningful, lasting impact it creates nationwide.”

Impact to date

Tennis participation in Canada has been on a steady upswing. In 2023, 13% of Canadians— nearly 5 million people — played tennis. According to the 2024 ITF Global Tennis Report, Canada ranks second in the world for the percentage of its population who play the sport (12.8%). This growing interest is an encouraging sign for tennis, but it also underscores the pressing need for more accessible, high-quality courts.

The National Bank Play Your Court Program, which has pledged $3 million to revitalize 100 courts across Canada by 2030, plays a key role in meeting the demand for well-maintained public tennis facilities. The program not only funds much-needed upgrades but also aims to inspire more Canadians to pick up a racquet and enjoy the lifelong benefits of tennis.

Since launching in 2022, the initiative has completed eight projects across British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, and Québec, creating a total of 38 new and revitalized courts to date.
