A generational investment. A defining moment for sport in Canada.

Tennis Canada welcomes the Government of Canada’s announcement of a historic $755 million investment in sport as a pivotal moment for the future of our game and the broader sport system.

We thank Prime Minister Mark Carney, Minister of Finance and National Revenue François-Philippe Champagne, and Secretary of State (Sport) Adam van Koeverden for for their recognition of the vital role sport plays in building a stronger, healthier, and more connected Canada.

This investment represents a commitment to sport from the grassroots to the global stage — supporting increased participation, strengthening high-performance pathways, and enabling Canada to host world-class events. For tennis, it reinforces a fully integrated development model that grows the game at every level: from local courts and community clubs, through provincial systems, to our National Tennis Centre - and all the way to the National Bank Open presented by Rogers, our most important international competition and the fuel of tennis in Canada.

Sport investment drives benefits far beyond the court. It fosters healthier communities, creates pathways for talent to emerge from every corner of the country, enables world-class events that drive local economies and strengthens national pride. For years, Tennis Canada — alongside its partners, coaches, clubs, volunteers, and athletes — has worked to build and sustain this system, often stretching limited resources to meet growing demand. This announcement demonstrates what is possible when that commitment is matched with a clear national vision.

For the next generation picking up a racquet in parks, schools, and clubs across Canada, this moment carries significance beyond a funding announcement. It reflects their country’s belief in the power of sport — and tennis — and it what it can become.

Importantly, this generational investment creates new opportunities to strengthen critical infrastructure across the country. Enhanced facilities will not only support player development and participation but will also help Canada attract and retain major international events — key drivers of economic impact, fan engagement, and long-term growth of the sport.

There is real opportunity ahead. Together with our partners across the Canadian sport system, we look forward to continuing to build modern, inclusive, and high-performing environments that allows tennis and its participants to thrive, from municipal parks to the top courts in the world.
