Tennis Canada today announced the continued growth of the Year-Round Community Tennis Courts Program presented by Rogers, as two more facilities will be receiving funding in 2026. With the addition of these two projects, the Year-Round Community Tennis Courts Program has surpassed the halfway mark of its stated goal, and the program is on pace to reach its objective of building 160-year-round courts at up to 30 facilities by 2029.

Port Hope Racquet Club, in Port Hope, ON and Gore Meadows Community Centre in Brampton, ON, will each receive $200,000 in seed money to build tennis facilities that serve their communities year-round. When these projects are completed, they will deliver 10 new year-round courts, making tennis more accessible in their communities.

“Our mission at Tennis Canada is to expand access to tennis for people across Canada while helping to build stronger, healthier, and more inclusive communities,” said Gavin Ziv, Chief Executive Officer of Tennis Canada. “We’re deeply grateful to our valued partner Rogers for their continued commitment to this mission-critical program. Congratulations to the municipalities and club operators selected to receive support. We’re excited to watch these initiatives take shape and make a real impact locally. We invite other municipalities, clubs, and players to connect with us to explore how they can bring a similar project to life in their own community.”

The Port Hope Racquet Club will include four courts in an air-supported facility, which will be operated by Supreme Courts.

“Port Hope Racquet Club is thrilled with the support we have received from Tennis Canada and Rogers to bring a year-round tennis facility to Port Hope and the surrounding communities,” said Darryl Goodall, President, Port Hope Racquet Club Board. “Our new facility addresses a need in the region that will grow the game while also supporting the current members at a number of neighbouring tennis clubs.”

The new tennis facility at the Gore Meadows Community Centre will consist of six tennis courts under an air-supported dome that will make year-round play possible for the Brampton community. Premier Racquet Clubs will operate the facility.

As Canada’s fastest-growing big city, Brampton has been investing heavily in recreation to keep pace with our rapidly growing population, building some of the best community facilities anywhere in the country,” said Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown. “This funding will support the construction of a new air-supported dome at Gore Meadows Community Centre featuring six year-round tennis courts, complementing a second dome that includes pickleball and padel courts. Together, these additions strengthen our recreation network and ensure we continue improving access to high-quality facilities for residents in every season.”

THUNDER BAY COMMUNITY TENNIS CENTRE CELEBRATES GRAND OPENING

Year-round tennis has arrived in Thunder Bay as the Thunder Bay Community Tennis Centre celebrated its grand opening on Friday, March 20. The Rogers Tennis Dome covers six new tennis courts, giving the community a place to enjoy the sport year-round. Alongside its nine outdoor courts, the TBCTC will have a total of 15 tennis courts, making it one of the largest tennis facilities in Canada.

Tennis Canada and Rogers jointly funded the TBCTC through the Year-Round Community Tennis Courts Program, as well as many community and government partners, including Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario (FedNor), Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission (CEDC), and the City of Thunder Bay.

“The grand opening of the Rogers Tennis Dome celebrates over 10 years of planning and dedication to bring this facility to fruition,” said Jamie Grieve, Director of Thunder Bay Community Tennis Centre. “Thunder Bay Community Tennis Centre is grateful for the tremendous financial support of the City of Thunder Bay, NOHFC, FEDNOR, CEDC, Rogers and our tennis community sponsors and donors. This year-round tennis facility with nine outdoor and six indoor courts will greatly enhance our community and bring new opportunities for the sport of tennis.”

At the grand opening of TBCTC, community members and representatives from funding partners gathered to celebrate the new facility that will serve the more than 133,000 residents of Thunder Bay.
