Tennis Canada announced on Thursday that Toronto, Ontario native Jordan Jacobs has been named to its Board of Directors. He will take the place of Nadir Mohamed, who has completed his mandate after six years of service.

“The Tennis Canada Board of Directors is very excited to welcome Jordan Jacobs as its newest member,” stated Jennifer Bishop, Chair of the Board. “Having forged a stellar reputation in his respective field, he will bring a different perspective and new ideas to the table, which we believe will play an important role for tennis in Canada in the coming years. I would also like to thank Nadir Mohamed for his exceptional contribution during his time on the Board.”

Mr Jacobs is currently the Managing Partner and co-founder of Radical Ventures, a venture capital firm investing in Artificial Intelligence companies. His career has included many high-profile roles including as co-CEO and co-founder of AI company Layer 6 (acquired by TD Bank in 2018), and co-founder of the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence. He is also currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR). Previously Mr Jacobs was a tech, media and sports lawyer, and founded SpyBox Media, through which he executively produced the award-winning TV series Spectacle alongside Sir Elton John and Elvis Costello.

Mr Jacobs fell in love with tennis as a child and was even a ball kid at the National Bank Open presented by Rogers as well as Davis Cup ties. In addition to regularly attending the National Bank Open, he has travelled to various tennis events across the world as a fan, including Roland-Garros, Wimbledon, the US Open, Indian Wells and the Laver Cup. His two sons are tennis enthusiasts and promising players, with both currently part of high-performance academies.

“From growing grass roots community tennis to developing Grand Slam champions and running two of the world’s premier tournaments, Tennis Canada is at the centre of Canada’s emergence as an elite tennis nation,” Mr Jacobs commented. “As a life-long tennis lover I’m thrilled to join the Tennis Canada Board and support the team’s extraordinary work.”

Mr Jacobs joins the current Board of Directors, chaired by Jennifer Bishop: Matthew Akman, Penny Ballem, Marcia Ellen Jackson, Peter Kruyt, Josée Noiseux, Richard Harris, Sébastien LeBlanc, Derrick Rowe, Sam Sebastian, Michael Downey and Mike Tevlin.
