As the sun sets on Indian Wells, Ben and Mike are joined by former World No. 4 and world-renowned tennis coach and analyst Brad Gilbert to recap all of the action at the BNP Paribas Open.
On the men’s side, Brad touches on the incredible level that players like champion Carlos Alcaraz are taking the sport and compares it to his era on the ATP.
“I just think that you’re seeing more athleticism…I do think the game gets constantly better. And seeing the explosiveness from Alcaraz and I’ll say it, the men’s the margins are just razor slim.”
Gilbert coached some of the best players in the sport, most notably Andre Agassi, Andy Roddick and Andy Murray. He chats candidly on the podcast about why he feels he’s nearing a return to coaching once again at the professional level and what type of player might be best suited to his style.
On the women’s side of things, the always engaging Gilbert discusses the high level we’ve seen from World No. 1 Iga Świątek and how she’s now been pushed by Indian Wells champion Elena Rybakina as well as finalist Aryna Sabalenka. He also offers his expectations for Canadians Bianca Andreescu and Leylah Annie Fernandez this year.
Check back with us next week for a look at how things are progressing in the latter half of the Sunshine Double at the Miami Open!
